From the Reimann Family

December 18, 2013

At 4:44 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18th, 2013, Jim went to be with the Lord and to hear the words he has wanted to hear, “Well Done, My Good and Faithful Servant!” We know that God is completely Sovereign and has a plan for all of us, indeed fulfilling His plan for Jim. He “Ran the Race” and “Fought the Good Fight”. Our prayer over the past few weeks has consistently been for God’s will so that He may be glorified through all of this. Jim is with the Lord now, but isn’t it wonderful that he has already said what he would want to say to you today in his writings, Morning by Morning and Evening by Evening? The following are exerpts “From the Pen of Jim Reimann” in those two books.

“He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he” (Deut. 32:4)

“All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be”. (Psalm 139:16)

Thus, when it comes to sickness, we must keep in mind there may be a purpose greater than our own – that God may be glorified!

It is not God’s will for everyone to be healed each and every time we pray for healing. If that were truly the case, we would never see a believer die physically, and we know that occurs. Of course, when we see a friend or family member dealing with a difficult illness, our spiritual nature leads us to pray for them. And that is what we should do. Yet we must keep in mind that our will always must be in submission to God’s will.

It is inevitable, if we live a long life here on earth, that we will have to deal with the loss of a loved one – perhaps many losses. Although it is not wrong to pray for God’s healing, we should always desire that His will be done. And there may come a time when the Lord reveals to you that He wants to take His saint on to glory. At that point, it is not only appropriate but also obedient to release that person through prayer to the Lord. It also may be appropriate to tell the loved one for whom you are praying that it is okay to go on to glory. Remember: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. (Psalm 116:15)

Many people fear death, but it is something believers should never fear. Paul makes it seem as natural and easy as falling asleep, and the Old Testament tells us: “There is a time for everything…a time to be born and a time to die” (Eccl. 3:1-2).

Others may say, “It’s not being dead I’m afraid of – It’s getting dead!” Yet not only is the timing of our death in God’s hands but also how we will die. And whether it is a painful home-going or not, the Lord promises, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Heb. 13:5). He is “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles” (2 Cor. 1:3-4).

So many Christians fear death, but in truth a believer never really dies. Otherwise, eternal life would not be eternal. And if we think about it, do we really want to live forever in these earthly bodies, facing continual weakening, decline, and decay? Perhaps our thinking needs to be transformed regarding these worldly shells we call bodies. May we comfort each other with these words of Paul: “The dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’ Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?'” (1 Cor. 15:52-55).

I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain (Phil. 1:20-21).

May even our death bring glory to God, for Jesus once shared with Peter – “the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God (John 21:19).

What a blessing it is for our family to have these words from Jim to comfort us. We hope they will be a comfort to you as well. Although these words are excerpts “From the Pen of Jim Reimann”, he quotes so much scripture in his writings. Therefore, they are really the words of our Lord that are comforting us. What an Amazing Sovereign Lord we have indeed. He is truly the God of all Comfort.

December 14, 2013

Jim’s health continues to decline at a very rapid rate. Hospice was engaged last week and they have provided valuable counsel and assistance. We brought in a hospital bed and Jim is asleep most of the time except for a few moments here and there. We give him pain medication every hour or two so that he can be comfortable. He’s not had food or drink for several days now, so we know the end is approaching. Please continue to pray for Jim to experience the Lord’s peace. Also, please pray for us to love and support him in every way possible in the time we have left with our beloved one.

December 9, 2013

We received all the test results late last week, and with 99% certainty Jim has been diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD).  Several tests were run where positive results are indicative of CJD, and each test result came back positive.  There were also a number of tests run to explore other autoimmune disorders affecting the brain, but each of these tests came back negative.  This confirmed diagnosis is not what we were hoping for and yet we have been preparing over the last few weeks to hear it.  Jim’s mental and physical abilities have been declining rapidly, and the symptoms we are seeing clearly match the descriptions of CJD.

As mentioned previously, there is no cure for this disease.  The only treatments are pain medications and sleep aids to help make Jim more comfortable.

November 19, 2013

Jim and Pam met with a neurologist today.  It was the first visit with this doctor as previously Jim’s evaluation and testing had been overseen by a hospital neurologist.  The new doctor reviewed Jim’s history and the tests previously ordered.  The doctor also ordered additional tests which will be scheduled for later this week and/or next week.  Most of the test results from the first round of testing are not yet back from the labs, so there was no new information from this visit.  Given the time required to process these test results, it may be several weeks before any more definitive information is known about Jim’s condition.

November 15, 2013

As you may have heard, Jim has had problems with confusion since early October. He recently went to the hospital for additional testing, and he has been tentatively diagnosed with a rare disease that attacks the lining of the brain. This is a terminal illness that is an extremely rapid form of dementia. It is not known for certain how people get the disease, and there currently is no course of treatment or cure.

Prayer Requests

We continue to ask the Lord for healing and restoration of Jim’s body even as we submit to our Father’s sovereign, holy, and good purposes for Jim and our family.  Please join us in that prayer.

As you pray for Jim, please pray that the Lord would show him grace, peace, and joy moment by moment.  As you pray for our family, please pray that we each would have wisdom and discernment in how to minister to Jim and show him the love and support that he needs.  Pray that we will be reminded daily to stay strong in our faith, relying solely on the Lord’s strength, and to stay completely focused on Him, His will, and His Word.  We know that our Holy God is still sovereign over all, and we choose to trust Him no matter what.

We know the days and weeks ahead will be difficult, so we thank you very much for your prayers.

Contacting the Family

We can only begin to express how blessed we have been by the outpouring of love, prayer, messages, and practical support for our family.  Your contact from literally all over the world reminds us of special times where our lives have intersected – some for a longer time and some only briefly.  But we know that the Lord had a purpose in each relationship and we thank Him for you.

To continue sharing your love, appreciation, and support for Jim and Pam, you may contact them by either:

1)  Leaving a post on Jim’s website —

2)  Sending a private email message to the family —

Thank you so much for your prayers and support for Jim, Pam, and our family.

    Dear Jim,
I will always treasure the trip Scott and I made to Israel with you. The memories captured in my teaching journal are priceless. We were just talking with a group from our church about planning a trip with you for 2015. May The Lord grant you peace day by day and may he answer our prayers for healing.

  2. Lois Hartman says:

    Jim and Pam,

Our hearts ache and words are so inadequate to express our deep sorrow, hearing what you are facing. You touched our lives in ways you will never know when we went to Israel with you a couple of years ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Yes, to God be the glory.

    Much love,
    Jim and Lois

  3. Tim Brock says:

    Jim and Pam,

I am so sorry that you are troubled. I will pray for healing, but mostly for God’s will to be done.

What a glorious life! We all strive to lift up the name of Jesus in a way that will bring honor and glory to the Kingdom of Heaven. Most of us will live our entire lifetime without knowing if we have truly brought honor to our Father. But, Jim, no one can help but see the Jesus in you! God has favored you! Your life, and works are an example of the dedication to service, that only a deciple of the One True God, can show. May God bless and strengthen you through this stage of your journey.

  4. Jan Hine says:

    Dearest Pam and Jim,

I am praying for your peace and strength to be from Him! You are both so very precious and dear to us and to so many. I am trusting God with you and for His will and for Him to receive much glory from your witness of Him.

    In His love and mine,

    Jan Hine

Through the years your writings, work and friendship have inspired and challenged me and millions, always pointing us to our Sovereign Lord. I now return the favor and give to you, Pam & your family heartfelt words of faith, hope and the compassionate love of Christ.
I offer my prayer for healing and emotional support. You have always been, and will now be, a determined fighter! To echo OC’s and your words in closing this morning’s devotion, “…being energized by the power that comes from identification with Jesus.” Courage & comfort today and during this journey my dear friend and brother!

  6. Kim Ketola says:

I read Jim’s updated editions of Utmost and Streams every day–and I have for the last five years. The impact of the timeless and fresh insights made so accessible by Jim’s faithful interpretation cannot be measured. Praying with you and eager to see God work. Much love from a devoted reader.

  7. Andy Amor says:

    Dear Jim,

You have also impacted me by your ministry. And I pray to the Lord, who is not the God of confusion but is the God of Healing, who is able to touch you inside and out, that He will renew your mind and heal your brain. May he extend your days so as to continue your tremendous work for His glory. And may He comfort you beyond all that you can ask or think with His warm peace that surpasses knowledge.

    Love in Christ,

  8. Joe Ludwikowski says:

    Jim & Pam,

Thank you for your faithfulness! Your class at Apostles touched so many lives and it was an inspiration to me. I always marvel at your ability to bring the Bible alive. It was a blessing to serve you as you served the body in that place. Please know that Lydia and I are praying for you and for your family. God bless you both.

  9. Don Peek says:

We are asking God to show-off and bring healing to you and to your precious family. Jim you have blessed so many with your wonderful work and your bright shinning spirit! Now stay strong and trust Him more than ever! If we had all the answers we would not need faith!
    Kindest Regards,
    Don Peek

  10. Larry Yaughn says:

I do not know you but you are part of the family of God. I will pray for your complete healing. When Jesus was on this earth He healed everyone who came to him with the least amount of faith. HE is now interceeding for you and me right now. I know and believe that God heals instantly and also in stages. Jesus gave his disciples authority and power to heal. WE are his disciples also. Please pray that in the name of Jesus I am healed just as the disciple prayed and with great results. Jesus gave us the power and authority. Use it. Also pray for wisdom for you and your doctors. I am seem the medical community do great things and also miss so many things. If God chooses to use doctors then they need to know what to do. God can show them. You have not because you ask not or ask wrongly. Know what to ask for in your prayers. God wants to always perform miracles where God can be glorified. However we must stand on his word, follow the examples in scripture. The disciples and Paul performed miracles to glorify God and lead people to Christ. And all through history He has continued to heal. All things are possible.

    Jim and Pam,
You are and will be in our prayers throughout this challenging time. We feel brokenhearted for what you will be facing in the coming weeks. Please know that we will never forget the thrill of being with Jim in Israel and all of the wonderful ways in which he (and Tony) brought the scriptures alive for us. The cruise was another special memory and never would have happened without Jim’s commitment to God’s people. God bless and keep you and we will believe HIM for a miracle.
You are loved and prayed for,
    Kathy and Bob

  15. Bob and Kim says:

    Dear Jim and Pam
What an honor to call you friends. Our time in Israel with you was life changing from a human and a spiritual standpoint. Your knowledge, love for His people, Biblical insight and wisdom, care for your friends, and love for each other was palpable. We learned so much. We are forever in your debt.
As you approach this new trial your comfort in the sovereignty of God is awe inspiring. You are still teaching us.
We will pray for you. For healing, but also that God will be honored.
    We love you.
    Bob and Kim

  19. Boyd and Carol Wages says:

    Jim and Pam,
We were stunned to hear of Jim’s illness and so saddened by the stress this has brought to your family. Although it is difficult to understand why God has allowed this, we know He is in control and pray that He will choose to bless you with a miracle. We thank you for your obedience to the Lord and for your confidence in the Lord’s plan for your life. Our prayers are with you daily.

  20. Casey Hawley says:

    Dear, dear Jim and Pam,
This precious video is so like you two, authentic, gentle and thoughtful. You are dear and valued friends.
The Women’s Ministry Prayer Team at Apostles has been in prayer for you since Wednesday: prayers for Jim’s healing, a different diagnosis, comfort, peace, discernment for the doctors, and so on. We do pray that all of this brings glory to God. Your video response certainly did. We are here for you if you need ANYTHING.
    Love in Him,

  21. Lisa Rippy says:

    Dear Jim and Pam,

I am joining you in prayer for a miraculous report from the doctors tomorrow. 22. Mr Jim Reimann and Mrs Pam Reimann,
Saw the video only after our last comment on this site was published.

What a man you are, and what a woman. What a couple of a Great God. We are proud of you, so grateful to Him for you. Jim Ji’s witticism in this video on the “Update” is so admirable like so much else about him. Pamela Ji said quite well of how greatly God has used both of them, and will continue to do so we pray.

  23. Carla says:

Jim, your ministry has touched my life. I attended just a few sessions of your teaching at Mt. Paran Church in Atlanta many, many years ago. And it had such an impact on me.

Your calmness and peace exudes on this video. I will be praying for God’s miraculous intervention and that you and your wife will go on ministering together for many years to come this side of heaven.

  24. Greg Thornton says:

Grace and I will be praying for your both as you walk through this valley. “Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.” Love in Christ.

  25. Mr. James Reimann is precious to us. His work for the Updated Version of My Utmost For His Highest has been helping us in translating this book into languages of India. This version has helped us as so many many others to understand the content better and build a better relationship with Him. In addition Mr J R has always been available at shot notice to promptly respond to queries we have had while grasping My Utmost. It is difficult for us to express just how valuable this contribution is. We will be sharing this information with Translators, Publishers, Distributors and readers of My Utmost all over India. Please be sure of our prayers.

  26. Gene Hodges says:

My wife Jackie and I along with two dear friends went to Israel on your teaching tour. We were so blessed to to be exposed to your teachings and knowledge of Israel and of the Bible. It was a life changing experience that is embedded forever. Just as life changing was our opportunity to get to know you and Pam. We are praying for a Miracle that will show the world the power of God. Thank you for your ministry and for sharing your lives with us and so many others. Praise to God!

  27. Amy Stamper says:

    Jim, Pam, and Family,

Your family was an important part of my teenage ( and beyond) years! I still remember that y’all took me out to dinner with Ben and Donna to celebrate the night that I found out that I had gotten my first teaching job. You have walked through good times and bad with many people! That’s what the Body of Christ does and you are wonderful examples of that.
I pray that you will feel the prayers and love from the Body of Christ, and that you will find comfort in the encouragement from friend who love you. But more importantly, I pray Isaiah 40:11 for all of you….I pray that you will feel God gathering all of you in His arms, and carrying you close to his heart.

    Much Love from Birmingham,

  28. Perry & Debbie Ragsdale says:

We are stunned and grieved that you are going through this.
Of course we will pray as you have asked. Our little group that you have impacted down here in Fayette County still quote you, (even in yesterday’s sermon) use your materials and continue to be blessed by you. Our trip to Israel with both of you was life changing. Should God take you home now, it should bring you great joy to know that you have a legacy of bringing Glory to God and opening the eyes of many people to
a new dimension of Jesus and His ministry. We love you.

God Bless you and your family.

  35. Brian Bossman says:

    Jim and Pam,

It was 1989 when we met at your wonderful store, Christian Armory. As a relatively new salesman at the time, you both not only welcomed me in your store, but also selflessly took the time to share with me your years of knowledge and wisdom about the business of Christian retailing. To this day, I continue to lean on the wisdom you both shared. The fact you were so generous with your time and knowledge meant the world to me back then and definitely made a lasting impression. I will never forget it and I appreciate it to this day. Thank you both.

Please know that I will be earnestly praying for healing and wisdom during this time. We know that He is still on the throne and still performs miracles. We are also reminded in Psalm 103 that He still heals!

You are both very special to me. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

  36. Chris Arias says:

    Hi Jim & Pam-

You probably don’t remember me. I’m Priss Arias’ son. I was one of the unruly teenagers running around the FBA music ministry back in the day. Donna saw a lot of me. I was always bugging her or Norma for a key to the pipe organ.

The updated My Utmost For His Highest has been a companion and guide for my spiritual journey off and on since the year it was first published. It helped me get my head and heart around what had previously been very difficult to read and digest as a teenager. Now these many years later I enjoy both the updated and original versions and continue to drink deeply from that fountain of wisdom.

As it turns out, I did wind up being a full time musician. But I’ve also become a writer in my spare time. Your treatment of MUFHH inspired me to tackle another Christian classic and bring it into a more modern and less specifically British context.

I don’t know if anything will come of it in the way of publishing, but regardless, the experience itself continues to be priceless. Figuring out how to communicate big, brilliantly framed Christian ideas and ideals in a way that an average teenager can understand has deepened my own understanding of the concepts as well as a renewed appreciation for the original. Your work is my constant measuring stick.

I am joining the chorus hammering heaven with reckless abandon, asking for a miracle. However God chooses to answer, please know that your impact will continue reverberate for generations to come. What you have done in life echoes in eternity. Few men can truly rest in that knowledge.

    Warmest regards-

  37. Wayne & Judy Heaton says:

We just learned of the news a few hours ago in an email from Ben and Donna. Judy and I were so shocked to hear the news and we want you to know that we certainly will be praying for you and your family during this time. Sweet Jim and Pam, Words become inadequate in the news of Jim’s diagnosis. I am praying for all of the Reimann family, as ya’ll said, that His will will be done. It has been many years since we first met, and nothing can compare to our trip to Israel and Jordan this past Spring. Your teaching Jim, your help in so many ways, Pam. It is an experience I will never forget. And, the special DVD of watching Jim baptize me in the Jordan river. Priceless. Blessings to you, Susan

I am a friend and the Chiropractor for your son Aaron and his family. A lot of good results are being achieved in patients with various forms of dementia using Coconut oil. The brain has a high fat content and this form of therapy appears to have some success in providing the body with the raw material to rebuild the damaged nervous system structures.

I will pray for healing and the diagnosis from the most recent test are negative. Most of all is HEALING! The Lord tells us ” He will never leave us nor forsake us, Jim”. Also remember the ” foot prints in the sand” . . . remember Jesus Christ is carrying you, right now during this time!
    Love you both in Christ,

  55. Donna Fagerstrom says:

    Dearest Pam and Jim,
We are stunned/shocked by your announcement of this brain disease. Please be assured of our deep, love and care for God’s good, perfect and pleasing will. He’s still in the miracle working business and always will be. May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you and give you peace.
    Lovingly & Prayerfully,
    Donna & Doug

  56. Floyd Rogers says:

You probably don’t remember me but I was a regular customer in your Christian bookstore many years ago. I have been using My Utmost for His Highest book edited by Jim and since my wife died of cancer August of 1995. I have been reading it and blessed by it for the past 18 years. I have prayed for you and I thank God for you many times over the past few years. I was shocked to find out that you were having problems and I am praying for you now that your prayers will be answered, and mine would be answered according to God’s will. God bless you both!

  57. Linda Mattingly says:

I thank you both for leading the Israel trip in May. Your teaching, enthusiasm, knowledge and wisdom made it a treasure – a once in a lifetime event for me. I learned so much and experienced so much – more than I could ever imagine. I am heartsick over this potential diagnosis but join you in prayer for God to bring His perfect will for you both. May He comfort, sustain, and heal you .

  58. Scott Hopkins says:

    Mr Reimann,
Me and my family are lifting you and your family up in our prayers daily. We live in a world that seems to constantly challenge our faith, our belief systems, and the legacy we try to leave our family. However you seemed to never waiver from TRUTH. I only hope to be able to resemble that type of character and legacy that you are doing for yours. Thank you for listening when I needed someone and speaking Truth when I needed to hear it.

  59. Carl Ohly says:

    Jim and Pam,
I am praying for you both and like you, trust God that His Will be done on earth as it is on heaven. God is in the miracle business as we all know. That is my prayer…that Jesus will be lifted up from another miracle being manifested in your lives.
    Love you both,

  60. Bethany Belt says:

I love you both so much! I am not giving up on a miracle for you!
